LEAN: LAST PLANNER SYSTEM

"TOOLS OF THE LEAN SYSTEM"

Presenters:

LINBECK GROUP, a General Contractor,  has been involved with LEAN construction over ten years

TDINDUSTRIES, a Trade Partner, has been involved with LEAN construction on the specialty/subcontractor side for over 10 years and recently overhauled an entire manufacturing facility utilizing LEAN Theory and Implementation of Last Planner.

The Panel will include Superintendents, Shop Managers, and Project Managers from both companies.

Abstract:

Heard a lot of buzz about lean construction lately? Want to know how people are really using it?  Then attend this event!

A general contractor and trade partner (who have been practicing lean construction in the Metroplex for over a decade) tell you how they've been using Last Planner on projects and in fab shops in Dallas and Fort Worth.

Linbeck Construction and TDIndustries will talk about Last Planner, a scheduling tool that helps get work done as promised and when promised. Last Planner engages the main project participants early on, and is a system of interrelated elements that realizes its full potential when these elements are implemented together. Based on simple paper forms, it uses Post-it notes, #2 lead pencils and a copy machine.

Last Planner can be used by all industry participants, whether or not the projects they are on are officially LEAN.

At the last LCI-DFW event, Owners talked about the value of Lean on their projects and we heard one of the Owners emphasize his expectation that the entities he contracts with will come to him with LEAN already being used within their company.  Find out how.

Benefits to the client and project participants are significant.

Don't miss this opportunity to find out how lean construction is being used in the Metroplex today.

LCI DFW Community of Practice (CoP)

The Lean Construction Institute (LCI), a non-profit research organization, was founded in August 1997. LCI's purpose is to develop and disseminate new knowledge regarding the management of work in design, engineering and construction for capital facilities. LCI has developed the Lean Project Delivery System© (LPDS), and the Last Planner® System of production control. Lean Construction is a production management-based approach to project delivery - a new way to design and build capital facilities. Lean production management has caused a revolution in manufacturing design, supply and assembly. Applied to construction, Lean changes the way work is done throughout the delivery process. Lean Construction extends from the objectives of a lean production system - maximize value and minimize waste - to specific techniques and applies them in a new project delivery process extending from project definition through design, supply and assembly.

The Dallas Fort Worth Community of Practice of LCI  provides local lean support to owners, architects and designers, engineers, contractors, specialty contractors, and suppliers.  We invite owners and project delivery team members to meet together as a local user group to learn, share, and develop a lean community in DFW. As a regional forum for conversations among practitioners, the CoP will help create a new common sense for the AEC industry as LCI continues to build knowledge in design and construction.
